It's a good thing that David Wells found out about his diabetes sooner rather than later. Obviously, he's a free-wheeling, fun-loving guy who loves food a bit more than exercise. But having this condition is enough to put a scare into anybody. So if Wells takes better care of his body, his performance as a pitcher might even improve.

Don't mouth off to cops or security officers, especially in an airport setting. It doesn't matter if you're a baseball star or a traveling salesman on a business trip. Jake Peavy, ace of the San Diego staff, made the mistake of insulting a rent-a-cop at a Mobile, Alabama airport. The result? Even though he was headed to the Dominican Republic on a church mission, Peavy ended up in jail. A good lesson learned.
