Photo: BOSTON - DECEMBER 14: Daisuke Matsuzaka looks on as Tak Sato translates for him during a press conference announcing that the pitcher has signed with the Boston Red Sox on December 14, 2006 at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts. Matsuzaka will get $52 million over six years. (Photo by Elsa/Getty Images) Compared to other high-priced pitchers like Roger Clemens, Mike Mussina and Andy Pettite, the Red Sox' Daisuke Matsuzaka deal may not be so bad. It's definitely better than the $16 million Barry Bonds will make next year. I mean, Matsuzaka's base salary is a mere $6 million. Of course, Boston had to pay $51+ million to have the right to sign him in the first place. Still, the Sox' rotation now looks like one of the strongest in the bigs.
