Can Chipper Jones set a modern day record for highest batting average? Check the facts, but I believe no one has batted over .400 since Ted Williams did it in 1941. I think his mark was .406. Well, not to put a jinx on the Braves' most reliable hitter of the past decade+, but we're close to Memorial Day and he is on top of the .400 barrier. Best of luck to you, Chipper and most of all, just stay healthy. We need you in the lineup.

As of today, Andruw Jones is batting .199 and his on-base percentage and slugging percentage are abysmal. He may be one of the greatest center fielders to ever play the game, but at the plate, his struggles are agonizing to watch. The crazy thing is, this is Andruw's much-publicized "contract" year, so if he could figure out how to fix his batting woes, you know he would. His agent, the notorious Scott Boras, must be developing multiple ulcers linked to Andruw's lack of performance. Nah, come to think of it, Boras has way too much money and way too many other clients to have concerns about the Braves' center fielder. The  question is, can Andruw turn this season around, or is he in the initial stages of a long, slow, career decline? Any opinions?

Mike Hampton is out for the third season in a row with another elbow surgery, though this one is not as serious as his previous Tommy John surgery. My first reaction is that this is a serious blow to the Braves, but upon reflection, I think if Lance Cormier can come back soon, he and Kyle  Davies can excel in the last two rotation spots. On the other hand, I don't know if Mark Redman should ultimately be in the mix.

Being a tried-and-true Braves fan, I never thought we would sweep the Phils in their park, then come back home to face New York over the first weekend of the season. The Mets are an offensive juggernaut, so we will need strong starting pitching to beat them. It should be something to see John Smoltz pitch against Tom Glavine. Lots of mixed feelings here.

Is anybody else furious about the collapse of the Braves' announcer team?  It will never be the same without Don, Joe, Skip and Pete.  We lost our local ownership and now are losing the long-time voice of the Braves.  UGGH!

We miss you Leo!   Braves fans suffered one of the single most debilitating events when Leo left Turner field and the Brave's organization.  Can anybody really fill those shoes?

What a turnaround! I hate to admit it, but I changed the channel after the Marlins' Uggla hit his home run in the top of the tenth inning. So I missed the most amazing comeback of 2006 by the Braves. I guess that taught me a lesson—never give up on your hometown team, no matter what. Who knows, this season, the Braves just might come out smokin'!
